Due to the rise in COVID-19 cases, we have changed our office policy for entry. Everyone must ring our doorbell for service. Prior to entry, you will be asked several questions via our intercom system. Upon satisfactory answering of questions, you will be given a COVID-19 form for completion through our door slot. Once finished, you will have your temperature taken and escorted into our office. All individuals must wear a mask. Only those with appointments are allowed to be in the office at this time. We are active participants in flattening the curve and appreciate your cooperation in this matter.

Several groups combining to host Diversity Hiring Event in Beckley tomorrow

BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – The city of Beckley will be holding a Diversity Hiring Event tomorrow.

The Beckley police and fire departments will both be participating and encouraging a diverse group of applicants to apply.

“Our police department has been awarded a grant to hire more officers,” said Dumas Psychology Collective Dr. Kristi Dumas. “We really want to make sure that those officers that are new hires are really reflective of the communities that they police.”

The Beckley Human Rights Commission is also heavily involved in the event.

“When you’re policed by persons that share more of your demographic, naturally, understanding should follow,” added Beckley City Councilman Robert Dunlap. “People will be more empathetic to the persons they’re policing.”

The event will be at East Beckley Police Substation tomorrow morning from 9-12, and then at the East Park Police Substation from 1-4 in the afternoon.
